INSTAGRAM REELS TRICKS

Instagram Reels, the brand-new feature that just launched, is getting a lot of attention.

You've probably seen people talking about it on the internet because many countries got access to Instagram Reels in a flash like a week ago and we've all been trying it out for the last few days.

But if you want to know what it is and learn how to make your own Reels content, here are five tips (plus a bonus one!) that I have developed as a result of making a few of my own mistakes.

Watch the YouTube video down below, or keep reading to learn more about Instagram reels.

1.Instagram Reels is essentially Tik Tok's replacement;

The platform for sharing videos that has grown in popularity over the past few years. While the majority of Tik Tok's videos are geared toward amusement and humor and are primarily seen by young people, a growing number of brands and businesses are beginning to use it in marketing.

Clearly, Instagram couldn't let this market share pass them by without trying it out for themselves!

So, for the most part, you should now see a new section called "Reels" on your Instagram Explore page or when you search for a hashtag. Here, you can tap on a video to see it in full screen and scroll or swipe to see more videos that Instagram thinks you might like.

Much like Instagram Stories, each video only lasts 15 seconds. However, the Reels editor offers numerous additional editing options, allowing you to combine multiple clips into your 15-second video.

These Reels can be shared as a 15-second Story clip or permanently in the new "Reels" section of your profile. They can also be shared to your grid to appear in the feeds of your followers, much like IGTV!

As I've been experimenting with the editor and creating my own reels, I've run into a few stumbling blocks. I thought I'd share my solutions below: When stitching multiple clips together, I didn't realize that you need to remember to apply any speed effects or filters to each clip in your 15-second reel. All clips will use the audio, voiceover, or music you select as your backing (one of Reels' main features), but the effects won't; just keep that in mind!

TIP 2: DO NOT PUT TEXT AT THE TOP OR BOTTOM OF YOUR REEL

After you have stitched together your clips, you can use the same features and fonts as Instagram Stories to add text, draw with a pen, or add stickers to your reel.

To add interest and provide a caption or context for what's going on in your video, I definitely recommend using text in your reels. However, you should try to avoid placing the text at the top or bottom of the screen because these areas are covered by buttons when people watch the reel.

If you want to share it to your grid, you should also think about how it will appear in the Instagram feed, as this may cut off some of the text if it is not placed correctly. The best place for the text is in the middle or slightly below the image.

TIP 3: ADD A COVER IMAGE TO YOUR REEL

INSTAGRAM REELS HACKS

When you reach the final screen, where you can add a caption and share your reel, you have the option of uploading your own cover image by tapping on the video's thumbnail or selecting a frame from the video to be the cover image. This will make the cover image blend more seamlessly into your feed and make it more appealing for your audience to tap on.

I was unaware that you are unable to edit the cover image after sharing your reel to your feed! As a result, I ended up using a terrible face frame while I was talking as my cover photo a few times—not a good look!

TIP 4: Before you share your reels,

save them as drafts. Another thing I didn't know was that once you share your reel, you can only edit the caption and not the clips. After discovering a spelling error in my video after it had been posted, I had to recreate the entire reel from scratch in order to correct it.

In case you need to go back and make changes, I would suggest tapping "Save as draft" on the last screen with the caption, cover photo, and share options before pressing "Share."

TIP 5: Remember to include hashtags in the caption!

Because reels can be searched in Instagram's Explore tab, you need to use the same hashtag strategy as your grid posts in order to reach as many people as possible and be found in certain searches.

Additional Reading: A Bonus Tip: A Beginner's Guide to Instagram Hashtags SHARE FIRST TO YOUR REELS OR GRID, THEN TO STORIES When you arrive at the final page with the option to share, you will be presented with a number of choices regarding the next step. You have the option of sharing your reel not only to your Reels area but also to your main Instagram grid (and, consequently, the Feed), or you can select the Stories tab at the top and share the reel only to your Stories.

I hadn't realized this at first, but this only saves the reel somewhere else and shares it as a 15-second Stories clip. You won't be able to see it in your Reels tab because it only lasts for 24 hours and functions just like any other Stories clip.

Instead of tapping the Stories tab, you should tap "Share" at the bottom of the screen to share your reel with Stories and your reel area/grid. Then, once the reel has been uploaded, you can share it to your Stories by tapping the paper airplane's "share" button, just like you would with any other grid post!
